Wait. Do you hear that? Yep, that’s the sound of 2020 finally biting the dust! What a year, huh? Now that we’re starting to work our way towards a new normal, we can start thinking about our lives, our priorities and, of course, our New Year’s resolutions. Have you thought about what you’d like to achieve in 2021? I have. I’m going to really try and focus on making sure I’m doing all I can to make my wardrobe sustainable and use eco friendly laundry solutions as often as I can! Here are a few New Year’s resolutions I’ll be sticking to. If you’re like-minded, feel free to use this list for inspo and put these 5 New Year's resolutions for you and your wardrobe in place in 2021.
Go plastic free
It sounds impossible, right? So many things in our lives are made of plastic. How can we go plastic free in our laundry and wardrobe when most products involve plastic, whether it’s packaging or the products themselves? Well, where there’s a will there’s a way. And there’s a will, for sure!
You take your ceramic, reusable coffee cup to the cafe. You sip your drinks from bamboo straws. You take your canvas bags to the supermarket. Now your wardrobe and laundry can host plastic free items that are also a little bit fancy.
We’ve got super chic rose gold hangers to suit your impeccable home styling and improve the sustainability of your wardrobe. These clothes hangers are built to last and will also keep your clothes in tip top shape by preventing tears and snags. Pick up some rose gold marine grade stainless steel clothes pegs to match and baby, you’ve got a sustainable laundry solution too! “What about my laundry liquid? It’s held in a huge plastic bottle!” I hear you ask. Tru Earth Laundry Strips are the answer. They are strips of sustainable detergent that are hosted in compostable packaging. Boom. Your wardrobe and laundry are plastic free.
Fact: If everyone used Tru Earth eco detergent strips we'd save 700,000,000 plastic detergent jugs from ending up in landfill every year!
Ditch fast fashion
Fast fashion is slowly but surely contributing to the demise of our natural world. Issues with fast fashion revolve around buying quantity over quality, high use of synthetic materials that shed microfibres, dumping of unwanted clothing, unsustainable practices and unfair pay for workers within the industry…just to name a few.
Many fashion brands tell us what we need to be wearing without a second thought for the environment. But we need to boycott this influence and make the decision to choose timeless over trendy. The clothes we buy with purpose and consideration end up being our go-to faves for years to come. It is so important to know your own style and buy items that fit with the rest of your wardrobe. Before buying a new item of clothing remember to consider the potential “cost-per-wear” by asking yourself this simple question - how many times will I wear this? This way of thinking will steer you towards purchasing considered, quality pieces of clothing and you can look to invest in key garments that you will wear for years to come. These clothes may be more expensive up front, but will more than pay for themselves over time. It feels much better paying for a good quality garment (or op shopping for those special finds!) and having clothes you truly appreciate, than having a wardrobe full of clothes you never wear.

Invest in natural fabrics
I honestly cannot recommend this enough. Since making the conscious decision to buy clothes made from natural fibres, I’ve found that my clothes last longer, look better, breathe better, wash better and leave me feeling like I’m making an impact towards helping our environment.
By swapping out synthetic materials and buying linen, silk, bamboo and organic cotton clothes instead, you can save a hell of a lot of microfibres from ending up in our waterways each and every year. These plastic microfibres may be small, but they’re seriously bad news. They not only pollute our oceans, but these plastics are eaten by fish and eventually end up in our bodies when we consume those fish.
Organise your wardrobe
You’d be surprised how much clearer and calmer your mind becomes when your home is less cluttered. Seriously, the benefits of a simple tidy are off the charts. When you go through your wardrobe and donate or sell the pieces you’ve not worn in a long time, you’ll find that you celebrate what’s left. If you can actually see all the items in your closet you can look forward to getting creative with your clothes and you’ll find that you're much less likely to buy new pieces.
We have a range of stylish clothes storage boxes and rose gold hangers of every shape and size to help support your cupboard cleanout. With these beauties on your side, your clothes will be perfectly organised and on show in the most wonderful way.
